Every gematria total is a lookup followed by an addition. These are the lookup tables. They are generated from the same data the calculator runs on, so a total you compute by hand from this page will match the tool exactly.
English letter values
Seven English ciphers side by side. Ordinal is plain alphabet position; Full Reduction collapses each to a single digit; the two reverse ciphers run the alphabet backwards; Jewish, English Extended and Sumerian rescale it.

Sumerian is the simplest of these to remember: it is English Ordinal multiplied by six, which is why every Sumerian value is a multiple of six and why totals in the hundreds are routine.

The final forms
These five letters change shape at the end of a word. The choice of method decides whether that shape change also changes the value.

The practical effect is visible in a single word. שלום ends in a final mem, so Mispar Hechrachi gives ש(300) + ל(30) + ו(6) + ם(40) = 376 while Mispar Gadol gives ש(300) + ל(30) + ו(6) + ם(600) = 936 — a difference of 560, exactly the gap between mem at 40 and final mem at 600.
Greek letter values
Twenty-four classical letters plus three archaic ones that survived only as numerals: digamma at 6, koppa at 90 and sampi at 900. Without them the Greek system could not reach 900, so they remain in the table even though they dropped out of ordinary writing.

Final sigma is worth 200, the same as medial sigma, so a word ending in sigma has the same total either way — which is why ιησους totals 888 regardless of which sigma form is typed.

The positional systems — Hebrew, Greek and the English ciphers modelled on them — produce totals an order of magnitude larger than Ordinal, and totals dominated by a word’s highest letters. Non-positional systems spread the contribution evenly. Neither is more correct; they answer different questions, and comparing a total from one against a total from the other is a category error.
Checking a value by hand
Pick the table, read off each letter, add. T(20) + R(18) + U(21) + T(20) + H(8) = 87 in English Ordinal. The calculator shows the same breakdown under every result, so hand-checking is always possible.
Common questions
What are the gematria values of the English letters?
In English Ordinal, A=1 through Z=26. Other English ciphers reassign those values — Full Reduction collapses them to 1-9, Reverse Ordinal runs A=26 down to Z=1, and the positional ciphers use 1-10-100 bands.
What are the Hebrew letter values?
Aleph to tet are 1-9, yod to tsadi are 10-90, and qof to tav are 100-400. The five final forms are worth the same as their normal forms in Mispar Hechrachi, and 500-900 in Mispar Gadol.
What are the Greek letter values?
Alpha to theta are 1-9, iota to koppa are 10-90, rho to sampi are 100-900. Three archaic letters — digamma, koppa and sampi — survive only as numerals, filling the 6, 90 and 900 slots.
Why do Hebrew and Greek stop at different places?
Greek had enough letters, including three archaic ones, to reach 900. Hebrew has 22, which reaches 400; the five final forms were later pressed into service to extend the range to 900 in Mispar Gadol.
Are these values standardised?
The Hebrew and Greek values are, and have been for two thousand years. The modern English ciphers are not — different sources place the band boundaries differently, which is why a cipher name should always accompany a total.
